Silent the Night

Summary: Does the title seem familiar? This piece is a different take on the popular carol Silent Night; the original melody remains but the lyrics have been altered to tell the story of the Magi's visit as well as Herod's massacre of the innocents and Jesus' escape to Egypt with his parents.
A common theme of 'kingship' has been used in this song to connect the different sections: the kings who came to worship, the king who was a tyrant and Jesus, the King of kings.

Lyrics:

Silent the night; still is the night;
Son of God; love’s pure light:
Wise men have travelled from strange lands afar
Led by the way of a God-guided star
Coming to praise You as King.
Worship Him, Saviour and King!

Broken the night; moved is the night;
God’s own son now takes flight;
Evil enrages the heart of a king;
Satan is threatened by hope that Christ brings;
Bethlehem cries out for peace;
Grant to us heavenly peace.

Silent the night; still is the night;
All is calm, set to rights;
Bethl’hem rejoices at tyranny spent;
Christ has returned to His land of descent
Israel, now worship your King!
Worship Him, Saviour and King!
